Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The global burden of diabetes and its associated metabolic complications continue to grow, representing a paramount clinical and public health challenge. While advancements in glycemic control have been significant, overarching morbidity and mortality are increasingly driven by the sequelae of these complications, including cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, neuropathy, and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease. This landscape is further complicated by the interplay of diabetes with obesity, aging populations, and health disparities, necessitating a shift towards integrated, complication-centric management strategies that address the whole patient beyond mere glucose-lowering.

In this Special Issue, “Management of Diabetes and Its Metabolic Complications”, we aim to curate a comprehensive collection of research that advances our understanding of this multifaceted condition. We seek submissions that delve into the molecular mechanisms linking hyperglycemia and metabolic dysfunction to end-organ damage, as well as translational studies that evaluate novel therapeutic paradigms. Of particular interest is original research on the cardiorenal protective effects of newer drug classes, innovative technologies for monitoring and treatment, precision medicine approaches, and the management of diabetic neuropathy and retinopathy. We also welcome contributions on systemic challenges, such as integrated care models, prevention strategies, and the management of diabetes in the context of obesity and metabolic syndrome.

We invite the submission of original research articles, authoritative reviews, insightful meta-analyses, and clinical trials. Topics may include, but are not limited to, the pathophysiology of specific complications, breakthroughs in pharmacotherapy, the role of lifestyle and nutritional interventions, and molecular aspects of diabetes treatment. Your contributions will be instrumental in shaping the future of diabetes management and its complications.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Metabolites is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
