Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is among the most common male sexual health disorders, exerting a significant impact on quality of life, psychological well-being, and intimate relationships. Its multifactorial pathophysiology involves vascular, neurogenic, hormonal, psychogenic, and iatrogenic factors.

Recent advances have refined diagnostic approaches through validated patient-reported outcomes, advanced imaging, and biomarker research, enabling more individualized treatment strategies. Therapeutic progress has extended beyond phosphodiesterase type-5 inhibitors to encompass regenerative modalities such as low-intensity shockwave therapy, platelet-rich plasma, and stem cell-based interventions. Importantly, penile prosthesis implantation remains the gold standard for patients with severe or refractory ED, with innovations in surgical techniques, device design, and complication management significantly improving outcomes and satisfaction. At the same time, ED is increasingly recognized as an early marker of systemic conditions, including cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, and complications of prostate cancer therapies, underscoring the need for multidisciplinary perspectives.

This Special Issue aims to gather state-of-the-art contributions on the mechanisms, diagnosis, and treatment of ED, with a particular emphasis on novel therapies and prosthetic surgery. We welcome original articles, systematic reviews, and narrative reviews that highlight new evidence, technological advances, and ongoing challenges in ED management.
