Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Perioperative medicine is evolving toward a patient-centered approach, with anesthesia playing a pivotal role in optimizing surgical outcomes and enhancing recovery. Advances in anesthetic techniques tailored to specific surgical procedures and patient profiles have demonstrated potential in reducing complications, improving survival and quality of life.

Recent studies have investigated the impacts of anesthetic management on long-term outcomes, including morbidity, mortality, and functional recovery. Special attention has been given to opioid-sparing strategies and multimodal analgesia and their effects on postoperative pain, as well as enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols.

Concurrently, anesthesiologists face the ongoing challenge of optimizing outcomes for patients requiring postoperative intensive care, implementing strategies such as early mobilization, goal-directed hemodynamic therapy, and multimodal analgesia to reduce the length of stay in the ICU and decrease mortality rates.

This Special Issue, 'Perioperative Medicine: Optimizing Outcomes Through Anesthesia', will showcase high-quality research that advances perioperative care strategies to improve patient safety, enhance recovery, and reduce postoperative complications. Submissions may explore the following topics:

  • Tailored anesthetic approaches for specific surgeries;
  • Enhanced recovery protocols;
  • The impact of anesthesia on long-term outcomes;
  • Postoperative pain management;
  • Perioperative critical care optimization.

We encourage the submission of preclinical studies, clinical research, and literature reviews that contribute to advancing perioperative medicine and improving patient outcomes.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Medicina is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
