Interests: biomass fiber materials; functional textile materials; green textile composite materials
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Fiber-based materials serve as a pivotal bridge connecting traditional textile technology with cutting-edge materials science, and are now being integrated with unprecedented depth and breadth into critical fields such as energy engineering, environmental engineering, biomedicine, and smart wearables. Innovations ranging from microscopic structural design to macroscopic functional realization have become key engines driving the development of materials science.
In this Special Issue, “Advances in Fiber-Based Materials: Preparation, Characteristics and Applications”, we aim to systematically review and showcase the latest breakthroughs in this field, with a focus on, but not limited to, the following directions: (I) Advanced Preparation Technologies: Novel spinning techniques (e.g., electrospinning and gel spinning), fiber surface/interface engineering, green and sustainable preparation processes, and the construction of smart responsive fibers. (II) Multi-scale Structures and Properties: The physicochemical properties of fibers, such as mechanical, thermal, electrical, and optical characteristics; structure–property relationships; and bioinspired design and functional integration. (III) Frontier Application Explorations: Innovative applications in areas such as filtration and separation, energy storage and conversion, tissue engineering scaffolds, wearable electronics, high-performance fiber composites, and environmental remediation.
It is our pleasure to invite you to submit your work to this Special Issue. Research papers, reviews, and communications are welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
