Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to invite you to submit a manuscript to the Special Issue "Design, Synthesis and Performance of Multifunctional Thin Films" in Materials (impact factor: 3.748).

The field of thin film materials is a very extensive one, encompassing both the materials themselves and the manufacturing methods, which are constantly developing. With the development of thin film technology, new methods to grow thin films are emerging.

Notably, multifunctional thin films are a new generation of coatings that produce the desired surface properties and improved functional performance for materials. This Special Issue encompasses three main parts of the development of multifunctional thin films and coatings. The first part deals with the synthesis and fabrication, the second part focuses on the characterization of the properties and performances, and the third part concentrates on the application and importance of multifunctional thin films. The developed multifunctional thin films and coatings can be used in a variety of applications, such as biomedical parts and implants, electronics and sensor technology, optoelectronics, tribology, environmental protection and shielding, energy conversion, medicine, and drug delivery systems. Studies focused on novel methods in the design, synthesis, and deposition of multifunctional thin films, and their advanced materials behavior and performance are highly recommended for publication in this Special Issue.

The goal of this Special Issue is to publish original research articles, as well as critical reviews and perspectives from leaders, in both academia and industry, on all aspects related to the recent advances in design, synthesis, development, and potential challenges in “Design, Synthesis and Performance of Multifunctional Thin Films”. The contributions from the authors on the new concepts, mechanisms, and the potential impact of “Multifunctional Thin Films and Coatings” on environmental issues are also welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
