Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The global biomaterials market has experienced remarkable growth in recent years, driven by technological advancements and the increasing demand for innovative solutions in regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, and implantable devices. In 2023, the market was valued at approximately USD 178 billion and is projected to reach USD 488.7 billion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.6% between 2024 and 2030. Advances in the development and characterization of biomaterials have led to the creation of highly functional, biocompatible, and bioactive materials tailored to meet specific clinical needs. From natural polymers and ceramics to smart nanocomposites, recent breakthroughs are transforming and expanding the possibilities for repairing or replacing damaged tissues, as well as enhancing overall patient care.

This Special Issue aims to showcase cutting-edge research in the development, structural and physicochemical characterization, and biomedical applications of novel biomaterials. Given the interdisciplinarity of this rapidly evolving field, we invite original research articles, reviews, and case studies that showcase innovative materials and approaches.  By sharing recent achievements, this issue seeks to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration, guide future investigations, and support the translation of scientific findings into real-world healthcare solutions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
