Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Additive manufacturing is currently perceived as a disruptive technology in production engineering. It presents a lot of possibilities in different fields, and it is considered a fundamental element of the Industry 4.0.
As additive manufacturing technologies continue to advance, research is indispensable to guide innovation and to permit the development of new design methods that benefit from AM capabilities, new process optimization methodologies, new uses of innovative materials to additively process, and new industrial applications.
The objective of this Special Issue is to publish outstanding papers regarding new ideas and research results in the field of additive manufacturing technologies from approaches to the design for additive manufacturing to process optimization and the study of post-processing technologies. Innovative and successful industrial applications, as well as nonconventional approaches, are also encouraged.
The topics covered by this Special Issue include (but are not limited to):(i) design for additive manufacturing; (ii) the study of multistep process such as metal fused filament fabrication; (iii) optimization of the additive manufacturing process; (iv) post-processing techniques designed for additive manufacturing parts; (iv) new applications and new materials in additive manufacturing; (v) 4D printing and its industrial application. Research based on analytical methods, experimental testing, or numerical modeling is welcome. Literature reviews and communication articles are also welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
