Dear Colleagues,
Viral infectious diseases remain a major global health challenge, further exacerbated by the emergence of pandemic viruses and drug-resistant viral strains. The limitations of current antiviral therapies underscore the urgent need for innovative and broadly effective antiviral strategies. Marine natural products represent a promising and underexplored source for antiviral drug discovery, owing to their exceptional chemical diversity and structural novelty shaped by long-term evolution in complex marine ecosystems. These compounds have demonstrated potent antiviral activities against a wide range of viruses, including pandemic pathogens, by targeting multiple stages of the viral life cycle and by modulating virus–host interactions and host immune responses.
This Special Issue aims to highlight recent advances in the discovery, mechanistic characterization, and therapeutic potential of marine-derived antiviral compounds. We welcome original research articles and reviews addressing novel or known marine natural products, innovative experimental models, and combination strategies with existing antiviral agents. Contributions from both academic and industry researchers are encouraged.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Marine Drugs is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
