Marine Drugs 2021 Best Paper Award
Dear Colleagues,
It is with the deepest regret that we announce that the Marine Drugs 2021 Best Paper Award has been postponed to July 2022.
The Marine Drugs 2021 Best Paper Award will award review and research articles published in Marine Drugs between 1 January 2019 and 31 December 2020. Two reviews and two research articles will each receive an award. The papers will be selected after a thorough evaluation by the journal’s Award Committee led by its Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Orazio Taglialatela-Scafati, and the winners will be announced in July 2022.
Eligibility for the Award:
– Papers published in Marine Drugs between 1 January 2019 and 31 December 2020;
– Open to all career levels;
– Both regular and Special Issue submissions will be considered.
Selection Criteria:
The papers will be selected by the journal’s Award Committee according to the following criteria (data source: Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics)):
– Scientific merit and broad impact;
– Relevance to the journal’s field;
– Originality of the research objectives and/or the ideas presented;
– Creativity of the study design or uniqueness of the approaches and concepts;
– Clarity of presentation;
– Citation and download rates in 2020 and 2021.
Prizes:
– Two reviews and two research articles: CHF 500 each;
– Each winner will receive a certificate and an offer to publish a paper free of charge in Marine Drugs before the end of July 2023.
The winners will be announced on the journal’s website in July 2022.

Marine Drugs 2021–2022 Travel Awards
Dear Colleagues,
We kindly inform you that the Marine Drugs 2021 Travel Award has been postponed due to special situation in the past two years. New applications in 2022 are welcome and will be made under “Marine Drugs 2021–2022 Travel Award”. Applications will be assessed by an Evaluation Committee consisting of senior scholars from the Marine Drugs Editorial Board.
This award provides financial support for the winner to attend an international conference relevant to the research focus of Marine Drugs in 2022, in order to hold a presentation, present a poster, or both.
Candidate Requirements:
– Postdoctoral fellows or PhD students (proof required);
– Plans to attend an international conference in 2022 (oral or poster presentation).
Required Application Documents:
– Information of the conference that the applicant is planning to attend and an abstract that will be submitted to the conference;
– Curriculum Vitae and list of publications of the applicant;
– Justification letter describing the focus of the research (max. 800 words);
– Letter of recommendation from the supervisor, research director, or department head, which also confirms the applicant’s status as a postdoctoral fellow/ PhD student.
The winner will be awarded CHF 1000 and a certificate.
Please submit your application for the Marine Drugs 2021–2022 Travel Award online by 30 June 2022. The winners will be announced on the Marine Drugs website at the end of July 2022.

Marine Drugs 2021 Best Ph.D. Thesis Award
Dear Colleagues,
We would like to inform you that the application deadline for the Marine Drugs 2021 Best Ph.D. Thesis Award has been extended to 30 April 2022. The award will be awarded to two Ph.D. students who are about to graduate or participate in the graduation thesis. The applications will be assessed by an Evaluation Committee consisting of senior scholars from the Marine Drugs Editorial Board.
Eligibility Requirements:
a. The candidate must be a Ph.D. student who is going to graduate or participate in graduation thesis defenses.
b. The Ph.D. thesis must be original work.
c. The Ph.D. thesis must be defended between 1 January 2021 and 28 February 2022.
d. Applicants are required to submit the following documents:
– An executive summary of the Ph.D. thesis in English, of around 3000 words;
– A letter from Ph.D. supervisor recommending the candidate for consideration for this award;
– The candidate’s CV, including a list of publications connected with the thesis;
– An electronic copy of the Ph.D. thesis;
– A scanned copy of the Ph.D. diploma (or certificate of studying at a school or research institute as a Ph.D. student going to graduate or participate in graduation thesis defenses).
Selection Criteria:
– Quality of resume and publications;
– Relevance of the candidate and research description;
– Novelty of the candidate’s Ph.D. thesis;
– Strength of the recommendation letter;
– Anticipated academic potential;
– Originality and impact of the research.
Prizes:
– Each winner will be awarded 1000 CHF and a certificate.
– Offer to publish a featured paper in Marine Drugs with the article processing charge (APC) waived before the end of June 2023.

Elyakov Pacific Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Far-East Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences, 69002 Vladivostok, Russian Federation. Dr. Dyshlovoy’s research is focused on: (1) The anticancer activity of marine secondary metabolites; (2) biochemistry and cell biology to investigate the mechanisms of action of marine anticancer compounds.
Dr. Usama R. Abdelmosen, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacognosy, Minia University, Egypt. Dr. Abdelmosen’s research is focused on: (1) Antiinfective natural products from sponge-associated actinomycetes; (2) metabolomics and genomics tools in the identification of secondary metabolites;
The two co-winners will share 2000 Swiss Francs (each receive 1000 CHF) and both will receive a certificate and an offer to publish a paper free-of-charge in Marine Drugs, after peer review.

As the Editor-in-Chief of Marine Drugs, I am pleased to announce that the winner of 2016 Marine Drugs Award for Young Investigator is Dr. John MacMillan, Associate Professor, Chilton/Bell Scholar in Biochemistry, Martha Steiner, Professor in Medical Science, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas.
Dr. MacMillan’s research is currently focused on four major areas: (1) Marine Microbiology and Generation of a Natural Product Fraction Library; (2) Probing the Mechanism of Action of Natural Products; (3) Integration of Natural Products and High-Content Phenotypic Screening; and (4) Development of New Methods for Structure Determination and Biocatalysis.
