Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue aims to address the critical need for the sustainable valorization of marine side streams, which are often underutilized by-products of the seafood industry. The scope of this Special Issue encompasses the entire value chain, from novel extraction and processing technologies to the development of high-value applications in diverse sectors. The central objective is to present cutting-edge research that transforms these waste products into valuable resources, thereby fostering a circular bioeconomy and mitigating the environmental burden associated with their disposal. We welcome original research and review articles on topics including, but not limited to, the isolation and characterization of bioactive compounds (e.g., proteins, peptides, lipids, and polysaccharides), their application in functional foods, nutraceuticals, and pharmaceuticals, and innovative biorefinery concepts. Submissions that integrate life cycle assessment and techno-economic analyses to demonstrate the commercial and ecological viability of these processes are particularly encouraged.
