Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Women’s health remains significantly underrepresented in biomedical research, particularly in relation to disease prevention, diagnosis, and therapeutic innovation. At the same time, marine ecosystems represent an underexploited source of structurally diverse natural products with significant biological activity and translational potential.
This Special Issue, “Marine Natural Products for Women’s Health”, aims to bring together original research articles and reviews exploring marine-derived bioactive compounds relevant to female-specific diseases and conditions across the life course. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, reproductive and uterine biology, hormonal and inflammatory disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, gynaecological cancers, menopause, ageing, tissue regeneration and repair, skin biology, and health-promoting or preventive applications.
We particularly welcome contributions that address the discovery, characterisation, and mechanistic evaluation of marine natural products, as well as preclinical and translational studies assessing their efficacy, safety, and biological relevance. Submissions covering processing, extraction, formulation, delivery strategies, and scale-up of marine bioactives are also encouraged where these aspects support clinical or applied relevance to women’s health.
By bringing together multidisciplinary expertise spanning marine biodiscovery, oncology, reproductive biology, regenerative medicine, and applied biotechnology, this Special Issue aims to highlight the potential of marine natural products to address unmet needs in women’s health and to stimulate future translational and clinical research in this area.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Marine Drugs is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
