Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence, sensing technologies, and robotic hardware is reshaping the capabilities of modern robotic systems. Rather than executing predefined tasks in structured environments, intelligent robots are increasingly expected to perceive complex surroundings, learn from interactions and experience, adapt to uncertainty, and perform reliable actions autonomously. Such capabilities are essential for deploying robots in diverse applications, including industrial automation, healthcare, logistics, agriculture, inspection, service robotics, and human-centered environments.

At the heart of this transformation lies the close integration of perception, learning, and advanced control. These interconnected capabilities enable robots not only to understand their environment but also to make informed decisions and execute adaptive, robust, and safe behaviors under dynamic and uncertain conditions. Although remarkable progress has been achieved in recent years, significant challenges remain in developing robotic systems that can operate reliably in real-world scenarios while concurrently achieving high levels of autonomy, intelligence and adaptability.

This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for reporting the latest theoretical developments, algorithmic innovations and practical applications. We welcome original research and review articles presenting innovative theories, algorithms, methodologies and applications advancing and contributing to the next generation of intelligent and autonomous robotic systems.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Machines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
