Dear Colleagues,
In the era of global climate challenges and the rapid development of the Internet of Things, which includes wireless sensors and wearable devices, the search for sustainable energy sources has become a research priority. Traditional batteries, which require regular replacement, constitute a significant bottleneck for modern autonomous electronics. In response to this challenge, ambient energy harvesting technology is becoming of crucial importance. Advances in the miniaturization of electronics and the growing demand for autonomous machine condition monitoring systems mean that efficient vibration energy harvesting is becoming a foundation of modern engineering. A particularly promising method is the conversion of mechanical energy derived from everyday vibrations, ranging from industrial machinery and transportation infrastructure to human body movements. The utilization of piezoelectric materials allows even minor mechanical deformations to be converted into useful electrical energy, offering the prospect of a continuous power supply for structural health monitoring systems and medical devices. However, as a scientific community, we face the challenge of developing systems that are not only efficient but also durable and easy to integrate with existing structures. Although this technology has immense potential, the main barriers remain low output power density and low energy conversion efficiency under variable operating conditions. Therefore, we are pleased to invite you to submit your work to the Special Issue entitled “Advances in Piezoelectric Energy Harvesters.” Its aim is to present the latest trends, innovations and breakthrough achievements that will help overcome these barriers and accelerate the implementation of autonomous power supply systems in mechanical engineering.
In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following.
- Kinetic energy harvesters;
- Advanced materials for energy harvesters;
- Applications and innovations in energy harvesters;
- Self-powered wireless sensors and actuators.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Machines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
