Dear Colleagues,
At present, there are several theoretical and practical challenges associated with rehabilitation and assistive engineering.
Rather than humans adapting to machines, it is important that machines adapt to humans. Therefore, the development of human-oriented devices for rehabilitation and assistive engineering/technology is a highly relevant research topic. The emergent societal revolution, Society 5.0, aims to improve human–machine interaction and enhance human proficiency with new assistive intelligent devices for rehabilitation. The Society 5.0 paradigm seeks to synchronize humans with machines for better performance in the new, resilient, and human-centered society.
The main goal of this Special Issue is to facilitate discussion and new contributions on this theme among researchers from different perspectives, helping them to understand each other's viewpoints.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: assistive technology, rehabilitation, intelligent assistance devices, human–machine interaction, human behavior modeling, healthcare, biomedical devices and applications, and Society 5.0.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Machines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
