Sustainable Land Management for Food Security in Agriculture-Dependent Regions
This special issue belongs to the section “Land Socio-Economic and Political Issues“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Sustainable Land Management (SLM) plays a critical role in food security in agro-based economies. It involves a broad range of policies and practices, targeted at ensuring sustainable land use and conserving land productivity as a long-term natural resource. SLM entails the promotion of water management for agriculture, land use planning, agroecology, soil conservation, and associated agro-technologies that can contribute to food security at various scales. Sustainable agriculture cannot be viewed in isolation from climate change, adaptation/resilience, drought, pests and diseases, and other challenges affecting the land and livelihoods. Its effective management requires multidisciplinary collaboration, robust land tenure systems, and inclusive governance and policies. It is critical to effectively manage the available land resources in agro-based economies to ensure food security and sustainability for all.
This Special Issue aims to curate a collection of the most recent research advances for sustainable land management, agriculture, and food security for agro-based economies.
We welcome manuscripts for all main Land article types, including original research articles, reviews, technical notes, communications, and data descriptors, that link to the following themes, among others:
- Policies and planning related to sustainable land management, including land use planning, land ownership/tenure, land governance, and policy.
- Strategies, trends, or case studies for sustainable agriculture and food security.
- Impact of climate change on agricultural land and adaptation/resilience.
- Agricultural technology application, sustainable water resource management, and farmer livelihood improvement in agriculture-dependent regions.
- Gender issues in land rights and governance.
