Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to share an update on the progress of our Special Issue, "Soil Erosion Under Global Change: Processes, Impacts, and Adaptive Management", in Land. This Special Issue continues to gain strong momentum, with a growing number of submissions addressing both fundamental processes and applied challenges of soil erosion under rapidly changing environmental conditions. The contributions received so far reflect strong scientific quality and emphasize the urgency of advancing knowledge in this field under climate variability, land use intensification, and increasing pressure on soil and water resources.

At the same time, we are actively working to further strengthen and broaden the scope of the collection, and I would like to warmly invite you—and your colleagues—to contribute your latest research. We particularly welcome manuscripts that provide clear advances in understanding, methodology, or application, including the following:

  • Process-based understanding and modeling of soil erosion under climate change;
  • Effects of land use and land cover change on erosion dynamics;
  • Scaling of soil erosion processes across hierarchical levels—from soil aggregates and microstructure to hillslope, watershed, and regional scales;
  • Integration of laboratory experiments, field measurements, and watershed-scale analyses;
  • Role of soil amendments (organic and mineral) and soil condition (temperature, moisture content) in improving soil structure, aggregate stability, and erosion resistance;
  • Soil aggregate dynamics, structural stability, and their linkage to SOC and erosion processes;
  • Interactions between soil erosion and water quality, including sediment-bound nutrients, contaminant transport, and impacts on aquatic systems;
  • Conservation agriculture and alternative/sustainable and precision agricultural systems (e.g., reduced tillage, cover crops, agroforestry) and their effects on erosion control under proposed climate change impact;
  • Watershed-scale and integrated approaches to erosion assessment and control;
  • Innovative soil and water conservation practices and adaptive management strategies.

In particular, contributions that evaluate conservation and alternative agricultural systems in terms of erosion reduction, soil structural improvement, and resilience under climate change are strongly encouraged. Studies linking management practices to both soil processes and broader watershed outcomes will be especially valuable.

If you are currently preparing a manuscript or have ongoing research aligned with these themes, I would be glad to discuss its suitability for this Special Issue. Please also feel free to share this invitation with relevant colleagues and research groups.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
