Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Commodity markets have undergone profound transformations in recent decades, driven by financialization, increasing global integration, and structural shifts in the macroeconomic and geopolitical environment. Once primarily viewed as venues for hedging and physical trade, commodity markets are now deeply embedded in modern financial systems, exhibiting complex dynamics in pricing, volatility, and risk transmission.
This Special Issue aims to explore the evolving role of commodity markets in modern finance, with a focus on their structure, behavior, and risk characteristics in a global context. We welcome contributions that examine price formation, volatility dynamics, spillover effects, and the interaction between commodity and financial markets. Particular attention is given to research addressing speculative dynamics, bubble formation, and downside risk, as well as the impact of macroeconomic uncertainty, geopolitical shocks, and the energy transition on commodity markets.
Both empirical and theoretical contributions are encouraged, including studies employing advanced econometric, statistical, or computational methods. Topics of interest include—but are not limited to—market efficiency, financialization, cross-market linkages, and systemic risk in commodity markets.
This Special Issue seeks to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date perspective on commodity markets as a key component of modern financial systems.
