Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The purpose of this Special Issue, “Autoimmune Disease: Pathogenesis, Genetic Susceptibility and Novel Therapeutic Strategies”, aims to explore the new era of therapeutic strategies for the treatment of autoimmune diseases by discussing novel insights on pathogenesis of both common and rare systemic autoimmune diseases, mainly from the perspective of human genetics.

Autoimmune diseases are a group of disorders characterized by abnormal responses of B cells and T cells to the host. These intriguing disorders can occur widely and affect people of all ages, especially women from puberty. With the exception of an extremely small number of cases caused by single gene mutations, most autoimmune diseases result from the complex interplay between environmental and genetic factors. However, systemic autoimmune diseases are often diagnosed after overt symptoms appear, and treatment strategies are aimed at relieving symptoms rather than curing them. Therefore, timely and effective diagnostic strategies and treatment methods are needed. In recent years, due to the development of population genetics, evidence documents a deeper understanding of the genetic susceptibility to autoimmune diseases. This presents an opportunity for us to comprehensively re-examine autoimmunity-related genes and possible pathways.

This Special Issue aims to collect articles to increase the knowledge in the systemic autoimmune diseases area. In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Mainly, we call for papers that are mainly focused on pathogenesis and genetic susceptibility of autoimmune diseases, both common and rare, along with new advances in its diagnosis and treatment.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Personalized Medicine is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
