Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Offshore renewable energy systems, including offshore wind, floating photovoltaic, wave, tidal, and hybrid energy systems, are playing an increasingly important role in the global transition toward sustainable and low-carbon energy. However, these systems operate in harsh and highly uncertain marine environments and involve complex interactions among wind, waves, currents, floating structures, mooring systems, and power conversion equipment. Their large scale, coupled dynamics, nonlinear behaviour, and limited accessibility pose significant challenges to structural safety, operational efficiency, system reliability, and maintenance. Recent developments in artificial intelligence, data-driven modelling, digital twins, advanced sensing, and intelligent optimization and control offer new opportunities to improve the design, operation, monitoring, and performance of offshore renewable energy systems.

This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate recent advances in the modelling, analysis, design, monitoring, intelligent control, and optimization of offshore renewable energy systems. It seeks to bring together theoretical, numerical, experimental, and engineering studies that address key scientific and technological challenges in offshore wind power, floating offshore photovoltaics, multi-body floating systems, marine energy devices, and integrated offshore energy systems.

Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Intelligent control and optimal operation of offshore wind turbines and wind farms;
  • Modelling, design, control, and optimization of floating offshore wind turbines;
  • Floating offshore photovoltaic technologies and their engineering applications;
  • Hybrid offshore wind–solar–wave–tidal energy systems;
  • Multi-body floating systems and coupled dynamic analysis;
  • Hydrodynamics, hydroelasticity, and fluid–structure interaction of offshore structures;
  • Wave–structure interaction, mooring dynamics, and responses under extreme environmental loads;
  • Motion response monitoring and control of deep-sea floating structures;
  • Artificial intelligence and data-driven modelling for offshore renewable energy systems;
  • Structural health monitoring, fault diagnosis, prognosis, and predictive maintenance;
  • Digital twins and autonomous operation and maintenance of offshore energy systems;
  • Robust, adaptive, predictive, and fault-tolerant control methods;
  • Power conversion, energy management, and grid integration of offshore renewable energy systems;
  • Reliability, safety, and lifecycle optimization of offshore energy systems;
  • Experimental, numerical, and field studies of offshore renewable energy technologies.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
