Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In recent years, additive manufacturing (AM) has revolutionized the fabrication of multiple materials, enabling the creation of complex, functionally graded structures that are unattainable with traditional manufacturing methods. This technology has garnered immense interest from researchers and industry professionals alike, owing to its wide-ranging applications in key sectors such as aerospace, automotive, biomedical engineering, and electronics—where customized, high-performance multi-material components are in growing demand.

However, the development of multiple materials via AM still faces critical challenges, including optimizing material compatibility during deposition, achieving precise control over interfacial microstructures, and establishing reliable correlations between processing parameters, material characterization, and end-use performance. Addressing these challenges is essential to unlock the full potential of AM-fabricated multiple materials and drive their practical implementation.

This Special Issue aims to bring together cutting-edge research, review articles, and case studies that focus on the technology, characterization, and performance of multiple materials prepared by additive manufacturing. We invite contributions from academia and industry to share insights into novel AM processes for multi-materials, advanced characterization techniques (e.g., microstructural, mechanical, thermal, and electrical analysis), and performance evaluation for specific applications. By showcasing the latest advancements, this Special Issue seeks to provide a comprehensive overview of the field, foster knowledge exchange, and inspire further innovation. We warmly welcome potential contributors to submit their work and look forward to offering readers a valuable resource that shapes the future of AM-based multi-material systems.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Composites Science is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
