Dear Colleagues,
Aortic dissection remains one of the most time-sensitive and deadly cardiovascular conditions worldwide. Despite significant advancements in diagnostic imaging and surgical techniques, diagnostic delays remain a major cause of morbidity and mortality. These delays are not simply clinical—they reflect the fragmented nature of healthcare systems that fail to recognize the urgency and complexity of this disease.
In this Special Issue, we invite submissions that address the full spectrum of aortic dissection care—from diagnostic challenges in emergency departments to surgical outcomes and long-term follow-up. Aortic dissection is not just a surgical challenge but a systemic one, spanning emergency medicine, radiology, cardiology, intensive care, and rehabilitation.
As surgical strategies continue to evolve—from open and hybrid arch repair to total endovascular and branched stent-graft procedures—so too must our understanding of patient selection, timing, and perioperative management. Emerging advances in cerebral protection, organ preservation, and postoperative recovery are redefining standards of care. Yet, even the most advanced operative techniques cannot overcome diagnostic delays, inconsistent pathways, or inequities in system readiness.
This Special Issue provides a platform to explore the full continuum of aortic dissection care, spanning diagnostic precision, surgical innovation, perioperative management, and system performance. The goal is to identify solutions that reduce diagnostic delays, strengthen coordination, and improve survival and quality of life across diverse healthcare settings.
By bringing together insights from surgeons, cardiologists, radiologists, emergency physicians, and intensivists, this Special Issue aims to define what excellence in aortic dissection care should mean for the next decade—where technical mastery and system readiness align to deliver timely, equitable, and lasting outcomes.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
