Advance in the Management of Cancer Pain

This special issue belongs to the section “Epidemiology & Public Health“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The comprehensive treatment of cancer patients with pain is multidimodal, with pharmacotherapy playing a key role. This Special Issue, “Advance in the Management of Cancer Pain,” is aimed at presenting current knowledge on the evaluation and treatment of cancer patients with pain. A holistic approach to cancer patients with pain is suggested as they suffer not only from physical, but also from psychological, social, and spiritul pain. Many patients are concurrently treated with anticancer systemic and local therapies. This must be taken into account when initiating and continuing pain management. Other symptoms must also be taken into consideration.

Pharmacology measures remain the main approach to patients with chronic pain. However, non-pharmacological measures may often be successfully applied, either alone or in combination with pharmacotherapy, improving analgesia and reducing the adverse effects of analgesics. These include physical methods of pain management as well as psychological, social, and spiritual interventions. Newer, less invasive routes of analgesic administration are also explored, improving convenience and limiting adverse effects. Pharmacology comprises different approaches, including non-opioids, opioids, and adjuvant analgesics.

Still, many questions remain open, including the safety of analgesics, potential drug interactions, and more effective analgesic effects. Recent problems associated with opioid administration open a discussion on the safety and efficacy of this indispensable group of analgesics for patients suffering from severe pain.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Clinical Medicine is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
