Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The Journal of Clinical Medicine invites submissions for a Special Issue focused on Pulmonary Embolism (PE), aiming to bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and its practical application in clinical settings. PE remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, necessitating continuous advancements in our understanding, diagnosis, and management strategies.

This Special Issue seeks to highlight innovative research that directly impacts clinical practice, as well as practical insights that inform future research directions. We encourage submissions that address, but are not limited to, the following key themes:

  • Risk Stratification and Prediction: Novel biomarkers, imaging techniques, and clinical decision rules for improved risk assessment in acute and chronic PE.
  • Diagnostic Advances: The role of artificial intelligence, point-of-care testing, and advanced imaging modalities in the timely and accurate diagnosis of PE.
  • Treatment Strategies: Updates on anticoagulation (including direct oral anticoagulants), thrombolysis, catheter-directed therapies, and surgical embolectomy, with a focus on personalized approaches.
  • Long-Term Outcomes and Sequelae: Research on chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), post-PE syndrome, and strategies for long-term management and rehabilitation.
  • Special Populations: Considerations for PE in pregnancy, cancer patients, the elderly, and other high-risk groups.
  • Implementation Science: Studies focusing on the effective translation of research findings into clinical practice guidelines and improved patient care pathways.
  • Patient-Centered Care: Research exploring patient perspectives, shared decision-making, and strategies to enhance the patient experience in PE management.
  • AI integration: Impacts on acute PE risk stratification, prediction models, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care.

We welcome original research articles, reviews, and meta-analyses that contribute to advancing the field of pulmonary embolism. By bringing together the latest research and practical clinical insights, this Special Issue aims to foster a more integrated and effective approach to the diagnosis and management of PE.

We look forward to your valuable contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Clinical Medicine is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • Reprint: MDPI Books provides the opportunity to republish successful Special Issues in book format, both online and in print.
