Recent Advances in the Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases: A Clinical Perspective

This special issue belongs to the section “Epidemiology & Public Health“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Infectious diseases continue to be a critical focus in clinical medicine, impacting patient care across diverse healthcare settings. This Special Issue, entitled "Recent Advances in the Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases: A Clinical Perspective", seeks to highlight recent developments in the diagnosis, prevention, and management of infectious diseases from a clinical standpoint.

This Special Issue emphasizes translational research and its application in clinical practice, offering insights that can improve patient outcomes and inform evidence-based healthcare strategies. The scope of this Special Issue includes, but is not limited to, the following topics:

  1. Epidemiology of Hospital-Acquired Infections (HAIs): Trends, risk factors, and strategies for prevention in clinical settings.
  2. Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs (ASPs): Clinical approaches to mitigating antimicrobial resistance and optimizing antibiotic use.
  3. Emerging Pathogens and Outbreak Preparedness: Clinical management of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, including diagnostic advancements and treatment innovations.
  4. Vaccine Impact on Clinical Outcomes: Assessment of vaccine effectiveness, strategies to improve coverage, and clinical implications of vaccine hesitancy.
  5. Infection Control in High-Risk Populations: Clinical approaches to managing infections in immunocompromised patients, the elderly, and those with chronic comorbidities.
  6. Diagnostics and Therapeutics in Infectious Diseases: Innovations in rapid diagnostics, novel treatments, and personalized medicine approaches for infectious diseases.
  7. Impact of Climate and Environmental Factors on Clinical Infectious Diseases: The influence of environmental changes on disease incidence and transmission, with clinical implications.
  8. Digital and Artificial Intelligence Applications in Clinical Infectious Diseases: Enhancing disease detection, patient management, and epidemiological surveillance.
  9. Global Health Perspectives on Infectious Diseases: Clinical insights into managing infectious diseases in resource-limited settings and addressing health disparities.

This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for sharing research that bridges epidemiology and clinical practice, fostering collaboration among clinicians, researchers, and policymakers. By exploring these topics, we hope to advance clinical care strategies and address the evolving challenges associated with infectious diseases in modern medicine.

We welcome the submission of original research and reviews that contribute to this important discussion.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Clinical Medicine is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs).
