Invitation to attend the 3rd Body Image & Related Disorders (BIRD) Conference 2021

The SWAN team are delighted to host the biennial Body Image & Related Disorders (BIRD) Conference. The first national conference was held in 2017, and we are excited to be hosting the 3rd biennial conference as an international virtual conference in 2021 (Friday 12th November, 12:00pm AEDT). The aim of the conference is to bring together leading local, interstate and international experts in the fields of body image and eating disorders. Themed presentations address a range of topics including the phenomenology, neurobiology and treatment of body image disturbance, body dysmorphic disorder, and eating disorders. The primary purpose of the BIRD Conference is to give an overview of some of the most important research currently being undertaken in Australian and abroad. The conference is intended to cover broad areas of interest to the eating disorder community and attendance is suitable for anyone interested in learning more about the area including researchers, clinicians, service providers, individuals with lived experience, as well as their families and carers.

This year, the conference will be free to attend! Our Keynote speaker will be Joanna Steinglass from Columbia University Medical Center & New York State Psychiatric Institute, New York, USA, who will present on translational research from mechanism to treatment in anorexia nervosa.

Following the keynote, there will be short presentations across four major sessions, including: Anorexia Nervosa, Body Image & Eating Disorders broadly, Lived Experience in Body Image & Eating Disorders Research, and Body Dysmorphic Disorder. Posters will also be made available online for attendee viewing.

Although the conference is virtual and free to attend, registration is essential. Places are also limited, so if you're interested in attending, be sure to register as soon as possible.

If you can't make the live event, send us an email ([email protected]) and we'll send you a link to the recorded conference proceedings!
