Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Inorganic thin films play a crucial role in modern science and technology, enabling advancements in electronics, energy systems, sensing devices, and protective coatings. The continuous development of novel synthesis techniques and material engineering strategies has opened new opportunities to tailor physical, chemical, and functional properties at micro- and nanoscale levels.

We are pleased to invite researchers and experts in the field to contribute original research articles and review papers to this Special Issue, focusing on recent advances in the design, synthesis, and application of inorganic thin films.

This Special Issue aims to report recent progress in the synthesis of inorganic thin films, with or without direct application, emphasizing the relationship between fabrication methods, material properties, and potential technological uses. Contributions addressing both fundamental and applied aspects are welcome, as long as they provide valuable insights into material development.

The scope aligns with the journal’s focus on inorganic materials, covering experimental and theoretical studies related to thin film fabrication, characterization, and implementation in relevant applications. The objective is to gather a collection of high-quality works (at least 10 articles) that highlight current trends and future directions in this field

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Synthesis techniques for inorganic thin films (e.g., PVD, CVD, sol-gel, sputtering, ALD)
  • Structural, electrical, optical, and chemical characterization
  • Semiconductor and dielectric thin films
  • Functional coatings and surface engineering
  • Thin films for sensors, electronics, and energy applications
  • Nanostructured and hybrid inorganic materials
  • Interface engineering and multilayer structures
  • Emerging materials and novel fabrication approaches

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Inorganics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
