Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Structural resilience is the ability to rapidly resume the use of buildings and structures following a shock incident or event. A resilient system can decrease the probabilities of failure, eliminate disproportional consequences after a disaster, and reduce the recovery time. Robustness, which directly affects resilience, expresses the capacity to endure a given level of stress or demand without experiencing degradation or loss of function. Traditional timber structures are characterized by low structural robustness due to the proneness to strength and stiffness degradation after multiple deformation cycles. Therefore, structural solutions for improved resilience has become a topical research area.

This Special Issue aims to collect all recent advances in timber engineering, emphasizing those characterized by improved resilience. The proper choice of connections affects the life-cycle and durability of timber structures. Additionally, new timber-based products are gaining popularity and demand the development of reliable connection systems. Infrastructures is an international, scientific, peer-reviewed, open-access journal treating all aspects of infrastructure engineering and, non-secondarily, those related to reliability and life-cycle assessment of structures with different construction materials. This Special Issue highlights the recent role of timber, not just as a primary construction material but as a complementary material to obtain hybrid structural systems distinguished by notable seismic resilience and carbon sequestration.

This Special Issue is dedicated to new advancements in timber engineering. Authors can contribute by presenting themes falling within the following topics:

  • Experimental tests and modelling of innovative timber connections;
  • Seismic response and fragility assessment of timber structures;
  • Long- or short-term performance of timber structures;
  • Predictive capacity models for timber structures;
  • Reinforcement of timber structures.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Infrastructures is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
