Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Polymers represent a broad class of important materials that are actively used in our everyday life and in many current technologies. They are expected to be applied even more widely in future technologies due to their lightweight and easy processibility. We are using more polymeric materials than before as substitutes for conventional metallic materials. However, due to complicated structures and hierarchical relaxation processes, the understanding of the polymer dynamics at different time and length scales is still at the rudimentary stage. With the design and synthesis of even more emergent polymers with complicated structures and functionalities, it is more pivotal than ever to explore their fascinating dynamics. Understanding the molecular dynamics of polymers will be helpful in the rational design of the polymeric materials with tunable mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties, to name several applications.

This Special Issue aims to highlight the latest advances in understanding polymer dynamics through experimental, theoretical, and computational approaches. We welcome contributions that delve into the molecular mechanisms governing polymer motion, relaxation phenomena, chain entanglement, viscoelastic behavior, and structure–property relationships in both synthetic and natural polymer systems.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Molecular simulations and the modeling of polymer dynamics.
  • Time-resolved spectroscopy and scattering techniques.
  • Glass transition and segmental dynamics.
  • Polymer chain diffusion, reptation, and bulk relaxation.
  • Dynamics in confined and complex environments.
  • Interplay between polymer dynamics and macroscopic properties.
  • Polymer dynamics in complicated functional polymers, i.e., covalent adaptive network, polymerized ionic liquid, polymer nanocomposites, etc.
  • Advances in instrumentation and characterization techniques.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
