Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Human papillomavirus (HPV) remains one of the most common sexually transmitted infections worldwide and is a leading cause of cervical cancer, as well as several other anogenital and oropharyngeal cancers. Despite the availability of effective vaccines and screening tools, disparities in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment persist, particularly among vulnerable populations. Barriers such as health system challenges, vaccine and screening accessibility, cost barriers, cultural stigma, and misinformation represent significant roadblocks to eliminating HPV-related disease. This Special Issue will explore innovative prevention and intervention strategies that address these inequities and strengthen public health efforts. By examining the barriers that hinder prevention and intervention and identifying practical, community-driven solutions, this work will contribute to the global goal of HPV elimination. We welcome papers that address topics that ultimately foster health equity and address long-standing barriers for the populations most at risk, such as community-tailored approaches that improve vaccine access and uptake, enhanced access to screening and treatment, the mitigation of healthcare challenges and logistics, and social determinants of health such as misinformation and stigma, for this Special Issue, “Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Prevention and Interventions Among Vulnerable Populations: Overcoming Roadblocks to HPV Elimination”.
