Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The high prevalence of childhood obesity is a major global concern. Recent data from the World Obesity Atlas 2026 reveal that approximately 1 in 5 children and adolescents are living with high BMI and more than 177 million are living with obesity. This is particularly alarming because unhealthy weight status can negatively affect several aspects of child development, including cardiometabolic and mental health, as well as motor skill acquisition.

Prevention is essential; however, obesogenic environments characterized by insufficient physical activity, poor nutrition and excessive screen time are increasingly common among children and adolescents worldwide. Therefore, promoting health education for children, adolescents, parents and caregivers is crucial to improving weight-related health outcomes in current and future generations.

In addition, there is a need to develop multidisciplinary and innovative strategies to support children and adolescents living with obesity. In light of these challenges, this Special Issue aims to discuss strategies for obesity management in children and adolescents, including both prevention and treatment approaches. We welcome all types of manuscripts, qualitative (using different theories) and quantitative (descriptive epidemiologic, cross-sectional, cohort, quasi-experimental, cross-over trial, RCTs) studies related to Physical Education, Medicine, Nutrition, Psychology and other health-related fields.
