Dear Colleagues,
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) caused by viral and bacterial pathogens remain a major global public health challenge, disproportionately affecting diverse population groups across different social, economic, and geographic contexts. Despite advances in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, the persistent burden of STIs continues to undermine sexual and reproductive health rights, contribute to health inequities, and place substantial demands on healthcare systems. Emerging epidemiological trends, antimicrobial resistance, digital transformation in healthcare, and evolving social determinants of health underscore the need for innovative, multidisciplinary approaches to STI prevention and control. This Special Issue seeks to advance the scientific evidence and practical application of novel strategies addressing the prevention, treatment, cure, and control of viral and bacterial STIs. We invite contributions that explore the intersection of public health, infectious diseases, social epidemiology, and sexual and reproductive health rights, with particular emphasis on interventions tailored to the needs of diverse populations, including adolescents and young adults, key populations, women, men, older adults, migrants, and underserved communities. Topics of interest include innovative prevention approaches, health promotion strategies, behavioural and structural interventions, digital health technologies, telemedicine, artificial intelligence, mobile health applications, and community-based models of care. We also welcome research on advances in screening and diagnostics, point-of-care testing, surveillance systems, partner notification strategies, integrated service delivery models, and interventions aimed at improving access, equity, and health outcomes. Studies examining the impact of social determinants, stigma, gender dynamics, policy environments, and health system strengthening on STI prevention and control are particularly encouraged. By bringing together cutting-edge research, policy analyses, implementation science, and community-driven innovations, this Special Issue aims to generate evidence that informs effective, equitable, and sustainable responses to STIs across population groups. The collection will contribute to strengthening public health practice and advancing global efforts toward the elimination and control of sexually transmitted infections while promoting health equity and protecting sexual and reproductive health rights for all.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
