Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Environmental contamination continues to pose a significant threat to ecosystems and human health across the globe. As industrial, agricultural, and urban activities intensify, the presence of organic and inorganic pollutants in soil, air, and water environments has increased considerably. These contaminants may accumulate in biota and humans, leading to toxicological and ecotoxicological effects that are often poorly understood or insufficiently addressed by existing regulations.
This Special Issue of International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH) aims to gather original research and review articles that advance our understanding of environmental contamination, human and ecological exposure, and mitigation strategies. We are particularly interested in interdisciplinary studies that combine environmental monitoring with toxicological or epidemiological evaluations, as well as innovative remediation technologies.
Studies that explore the use of advanced materials (e.g., nanomaterials) in remediation, as well as human biomonitoring, effects assessment, and toxicity or ecotoxicity bioassays, are especially encouraged. Contributions may also address regulatory gaps, risk assessment methods, and the challenges of exposure to complex mixtures of contaminants.
We invite researchers from various fields—including environmental science, toxicology, epidemiology, chemistry, and public health—to contribute manuscripts to this Special Issue. The following topics are of particular interest:
- Environmental monitoring of air, water, soil, and sediment contaminants;
- Organic and inorganic contaminants (e.g., heavy metals, pesticides, pharmaceuticals);
- Human biomonitoring and exposure assessment studies;
- Remediation techniques and technologies (including nanomaterials);
- Toxicity and ecotoxicity studies using in vitro or in vivo models;
- Risk assessment.
We welcome the submission of original research articles, systematic reviews, case studies, methodological papers, and commentaries. This Special Issue seeks to foster dialogue among researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to support evidence-based interventions and sustainable environmental health policies.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2500 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
