Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Organic pollutants (OPs) represent plenty of chemicals that could pose threats to the health of both humans and wildlife. In 1962, the great book “Silent Spring” by Rachel Carson was published, which completely changed the way people thought about nature and organic manufactured chemical compounds. Then, nearly forty years later, the “Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants” was adopted on May 22nd, 2001, which indicated that we start the war to complete the elimination of POPs. However, with adverse consequences of uncontrolled development of multiple human activities, other OPs were continuously produced via deliberate or unintentional activities, and thus we are still facing extremely serious pollution status mediated by OPs. The environmental protection research also has experienced a gradual process from conventional atmospheric pollutants (e.g., sulfur dioxide, dust, etc.), conventional water pollutants (e.g., COD) treatment, and heavy metal pollution control to trace environmental organic pollutants reduction.
To date, the analysis methods, environmental behavior, ecological risk, and environmental health of environmental organic pollutants (EOPs) are hot topics in environmental science research. In particular, to accurately understand the potential risks of EOPs, some effective and efficient methods for screening and recognizing of EOPs are needed. Therefore, this Special Issue of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH) focuses on the current state of screening and recognition of EOPs. New research papers, reviews, viewpoints, case reports, and conference papers are welcome to this issue. Papers dealing with new approaches to derive EOPs standards or risk assessment and management are also welcome. Other manuscript types accepted include methodological papers, position papers, brief reports, and commentaries. In specific, a broad outline of this Special Issue's scope includes but is not limited to:
- New analysis methods of emerging EOPs;
- Environmental behavior, fate, and adverse effects of EOPs and their potential metabolites;
- Mathematical modeling, systems analysis, machine learning, and beneficial use of big data related to the screening and recognizing of EOPs;
- Screening of priority EOPs and risk assessment for natural and artificial water bodies;
- Targeted/Non-targeted screening techniques for EOPs in environmental media;
- Toxicity identification evaluation and effect-directed analysis of EOPs;
- High-throughput screening methods for the identification of EOPs.
We are looking forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2500 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
