Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The COVID-19 pandemic was a health emergency that revolutionized health systems of countries worldwide. COVID-19 can present with varying levels of severity that require different types of treatment, including asymptomatic infection and mild, moderate, severe, and critical illness. In addition, the long-term consequences of COVID-19 are still little known. The most frequently reported symptoms after COVID-19 recovery, known as long COVID-19, include chronic fatigue, diffuse myalgia, dyspnea, headache, loss of taste and smell, and difficulty in concentration, which can result in significant impairments in physical, cognitive, and psychosocial health.

Due to the introduction of vaccines, COVID-19-related mortality has significantly been reduced, but the management and treatment of the disease remain a major issue. In particular, it is now widely recognized that the best approach to managing COVID-19 and the long COVID-19 syndrome is multidisciplinary, given the complexity of this clinical condition. In fact, it is crucial to develop effective strategies to treat the disease, manage its long-term physical consequences, and handle the impact on psychological well-being and quality of life. This Special Issue aims to provide selected contributions on advances and perspectives in the treatment and management of COVID-19 and long COVID-19 from a multidisciplinary perspective.

Potential topics include but are not limited to advances in the prevention and diagnosis of COVID-19; new perspectives in the treatment of COVID-19; management of the long-term physical and mental consequences of COVID-19; impact of COVID-19 on psychological well-being and quality of life; management and effects of COVID-19 in high-risk conditions (cancer, elderly, disability, etc.).
