Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

What kind of data should be considered a basic building block if we are to achieve equity through the social determinants of health? This issue examines the assertion that reality, knowledge, and information to construct policies, interventions, and regulations should rely on qualitative data if we are to achieve the best version of equity.

Just as we use quantitative data and large data sets to calculate rates of morbidity and mortality and conceptualize associations between variables such as socioeconomic status, mental health, or diet, we might also emphasize that qualitative evidence portraying the experiences of populations helps to round out evidence from which we draw upon to develop conclusions and make decisions.

This Special Issue of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH) focuses on the current state of knowledge and ideas on how qualitative data such as lived experiences shape our quest for health equity and a more full-bodied version of reality that lends itself to justness and human dignity.

We welcome original research, methodological papers, systematic and scoping review articles, position papers, brief reports, and commentaries. We will accept manuscripts from different disciplines and perspectives, including public and population health and environmental health.
