Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue “Health Promotion among the People with Periodontal Disease”. Periodontal disease remains one of the most prevalent oral conditions and a significant public health concern worldwide. Beyond its biological complexity, it profoundly affects quality of life, self-esteem, nutrition, and general health. Promoting oral health in individuals affected by periodontal disease therefore requires a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach, integrating prevention, early diagnosis, behavioral modification, and personalized treatment strategies. Recent advances in microbiology, molecular biology, behavioral sciences, and public health have expanded our understanding of how individual, social, and systemic factors influence disease onset, progression, and management. Moreover, the well-established links between periodontitis and systemic conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and adverse pregnancy outcomes highlight the importance of holistic health promotion strategies that bridge oral and overall health.

This Special Issue aims to gather original research articles, reviews, and clinical studies that explore strategies, interventions, and determinants related to the promotion of health among individuals living with periodontal disease. The focus aligns with the journal’s scope by addressing preventive and educational approaches, risk behavior modification, community and clinical interventions, and the integration of oral health into general health promotion policies.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Topics of interest may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Behavioral and lifestyle interventions for periodontal health;
  • Oral health education and community-based prevention programs;
  • Integration of periodontal care into general health systems;
  • The role of nutrition, stress management, and smoking cessation in disease control;
  • Patient-centered approaches and self-care promotion;
  • Psychosocial and quality-of-life outcomes in periodontal patients;
  • Digital tools and e-health applications for oral health promotion;
  • Interprofessional collaboration and policy development in oral health.
