Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Non‑communicable diseases (NCDs) are now the leading cause of death and disability worldwide, placing a substantial and growing burden on individuals, health systems, and societies. Driven by complex interactions between behavioral, social, environmental, and commercial determinants, NCDs such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic respiratory disease, and diabetes threaten progress toward global health and development targets. Despite an expanding evidence base, important gaps remain regarding how these determinants shape NCD patterns across diverse populations, as well as which prevention and control strategies are most effective, equitable, and scalable in real‑world settings. This Special Issue, “Non‑Communicable Diseases: Epidemiology, Determinants, Global Burden and Prevention”, seeks high‑quality empirical and review papers that employ robust epidemiological, clinical, policy, and implementation research methods to inform action on NCDs locally, nationally, and globally. Papers addressing these topics are invited, especially those combining rigorous science with a clear focus on practical implications for public health practice and policy.

We particularly welcome studies that adopt transdisciplinary perspectives consistent with the journal’s focus on health promotion, disease prevention, and the interactions between people and their physical, social, and policy environments. The overall goal is to generate knowledge that can inform policies and practices to reduce premature NCD mortality and morbidity and to narrow inequities within and between countries.

We invite original research, systematic or scoping reviews, methodological papers, and high‑quality case studies that address population‑level patterns and trends in NCD burden, multimorbidity, and risk factors at the global, national, and subnational levels; social, behavioral, environmental, and commercial determinants of NCDs, including urbanization, climate and environmental exposures, food systems, marketing of unhealthy commodities, and health system factors; and evaluation of policies, interventions, and models of care for NCD prevention and management, with an emphasis on primary prevention, health promotion, equity‑oriented and multisectoral approaches, and implementation in low‑ and middle‑income, as well as high‑income, contexts.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2500 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
