Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The epidemiology of viral infectious diseases is undergoing a profound transformation driven by global interconnectedness, climate change, urbanization, population mobility, and the emergence and re-emergence of viral pathogens. Recent decades have demonstrated that viral threats are no longer confined to localized outbreaks but increasingly manifest as complex, transnational public health challenges with deep social, environmental, and health system implications.
This Special Issue, “New Advances in Epidemiology of Viral Infectious Diseases”, aims to bring together high-quality interdisciplinary research that advances understanding of the distribution, determinants, surveillance, prevention, and control of viral diseases across diverse contexts. We welcome contributions that explore innovative epidemiological methods, digital and syndromic surveillance systems, event-based surveillance, outbreak investigation, mathematical modeling, and the integration of laboratory, clinical, and population-based data.
Particular emphasis is placed on studies addressing emerging and re-emerging viral infections, health inequities, vulnerable populations, health system preparedness, and the translation of epidemiological evidence into public health policy and practice. Both empirical and theoretical contributions are encouraged, including original research articles, systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and methodological studies.
By fostering a multidisciplinary and global perspective, this Special Issue seeks to contribute to stronger health surveillance systems, improved preparedness for public health emergencies, and more effective responses to viral infectious disease threats worldwide.
Submissions may include original research articles, reviews, meta-analyses, and theoretical perspectives, etc.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2500 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
