Dear Colleagues,
The topic of the special issue includes the assessment of factors related to lifestyle and its modification, as well as the role of diet in gynecological and obstetric diseases. It is necessary to emphasize the special role of the intestinal microbiota, which, together with diet, affects the occurrence and course of various diseases in women throughout their lives. It has been noted that the diversity and richness of the human intestinal microflora depends, among other things, on lifestyle. Disorders of the intestinal bacterial flora affect the development of such pathologies as min. metabolic syndrome, diabetes, depression, anxiety disorders, PCOS syndrome and play a role in other chronic gynecological disorders. They also affect the course of pregnancy, childbirth and, for example, postpartum complications. Modification of the intestinal microbiota, using prebiotics and probiotics, improves the function of the intestinal barrier. Supplementation with probiotics in combination with diet and lifestyle modification may have a beneficial effect on disorders in gynecological and obstetric diseases in a woman in the reproductive, perimenopausal and postmenopausal periods. It should also be remembered about the role of individual components of the diet, e.g. microelements.
