Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The vision of the Internet of Things appeared many years ago. In this context, the term "Thing" refers to a device, which is connected to the Internet and exchanges information with other devices. The term "cloud-based IoT" is used to describe the connection of a wide range of things (e.g., vehicles, mobile devices, wearable devices, sensors, etc.), in order to develop various smart systems (e.g., smart vehicles, smart homes, smart cities, smart farming, smart grids, etc.). It is a fact that IoT objects are increasing exponentially; in fact, the number of connected IoT objects is estimated by Cisco to reach 50 billion by 2020. The challenges in handling the vast volume of heterogeneous and often non-linearly correlated data produced by IoT objects mandate the use of modern efficient techniques. Computational Intelligence (CI) is the science of creating intelligent systems based on computational techniques and undoubtedly offers an arsenal of tools that can be customized to meet the ever-increasing and demanding needs of IoT applications. It is expected that CI and IoT will shape the Future Internet of Things (FIoT) in several ways.

The aim of this Special Issue is to bring together innovative developments in these fields, including advancements in intelligent algorithms, as well as succesfull applications in IoT. Papers addressing the wide range of aspects of this technology are sought, including, but not limited to:

  • Biomedical methods for CI and IOT
  • Biometric methods for CI and IOT
  • CI methods for smart data storage
  • CI methods in cloud-based IoT
  • Evolutionary Computation in IoT
  • Fuzzy Logic in IoT
  • Handling Big Data using CI techniques
  • Knowledge representation in IoT
  • Machine Learning in IoT
  • Nature-Inspired methods in IoT
  • Neural Networks in IoT
  • Swarm Intelligence in IoT

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Future Internet is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
