Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Land use and changes in land usage have an important impact on the conservation and sustainability of forest ecosystems. Extended agriculture, urbanization, infrastructure changes, and industrial activities have caused a decline in biodiversity, as well as habitat loss and fragmentation. All this impacts the resilience of forests from all around the world. At the same time, we have seen important advances in mitigating these impacts, including new and innovative tools and policies, as well as management strategies. This Special Issue will explore these complex relationships between land use practices and forest ecosystem conservation, balancing both the challenges and the solutions that lead to long-term ecological integrity. We welcome interdisciplinary contributions on ecological, technological, genetic, and policy-oriented approaches for sustainable land use and forest protection.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Land Use and Land Use Change in Forestry (LULUCF);
- Conservation of forest ecosystems under land use pressures;
- Effect of land use on biodiversity of forest flora and fauna;
- Using GIS, drones, AI, and remote sensing for monitoring land use and conservation;
- Genetic tools for forest ecosystem conservation;
- Land management strategies for forest protection;
- Policy frameworks supporting forest biodiversity conservation and restoration.
This Special Issue invites original articles, reviews, or case studies that focus on insights into effective solutions for land usage and the conservation of forest ecosystems.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Forests is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
