Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Climate change is rapidly progressing, bringing profound impacts on forest ecosystems, their management and silvicultural planning. The increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events such as droughts, heatwaves and storms present new challenges for sustainable forest management.

In response, forest biometricians and growth-and-yield modelers are actively working to incorporate these climate-related effects into models and simulation frameworks. Process-based models such as the physiological processes predicting growth (3-PG) have been widely applied to explore the interactions between forest productivity and environmental variables, but substantial uncertainties still exist. Further research is needed to integrate climate change factors into growth and yield forecasting, improve simulation accuracy and reduce model uncertainty.

This Special Issue aims to present new findings, methodologies and applications related to forest modeling and simulation under changing climate conditions. We welcome studies addressing the development, validation and application of models that account for climate variables, explore forest responses under RCP scenarios and support adaptive forest management strategies.

Potential topics include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • New approaches for linking empirical growth simulators with process-based models (e.g., 3-PG)
  • National- or regional-scale growth and yield scenario analyses
  • Modeling forest structural changes under various climate pathways (RCPs)
  • Integration of climate and environmental variables in growth and yield models
  • Effects of climatic factors on tree and stand dynamics
  • Simulation-based decision support tools for adaptive forest management under climate change
  • Evaluation of model uncertainty and parameter sensitivity under climate change conditions

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Forests is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
