Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Solid-state transformers (SSTs) are rapidly emerging as a cornerstone technology for modern smart grids, flexible AC/DC distribution networks, and industrial microgrids. By replacing conventional low-frequency transformers with high-frequency power electronic topologies, SSTs provide localized voltage regulation, galvanic isolation, bi-directional power flow, and seamless integration of heterogeneous energy loads and sources.
At the core of SST performance lie advanced DC-DC converters (such as dual active bridge, resonant, and multi-port topologies) and sophisticated control strategies. These components dictate system efficiency, power density, dynamic stability, and fault-ride-through capability. However, optimizing top-tier DC-DC converter topologies alongside real-time integrated control under highly variable operating conditions presents ongoing engineering and theoretical challenges.
This Special Issue aims to gather cutting-edge research and comprehensive reviews on novel hardware designs, advanced topologies, modeling techniques, and integrated control frameworks tailored for SST applications. We invite high-quality original research papers and review articles focusing on, but not limited to, the following topics:
- Advanced DC-DC converter topologies for SST applications (e.g., DAB, LLC, multi-port, and isolated buck/boost architectures);
- High-frequency transformer design, magnetic integration, and loss optimization;
- Integrated and multi-objective control strategies for SST DC-DC stages;
- Dynamic response, transient performance, and stability enhancement in DC-DC converters;
- Application of wide bandgap (SiC/GaN) semiconductor devices in SST-DC-DC conversion;
- Distributed control and co-optimization of multi-module SST architectures;
- AI and machine learning applications in SST parameter estimation, control, and performance optimization;
- Fault diagnosis, fault-tolerant operation, and thermal management for SST DC-DC converters;
- Grid integration and power quality management using SST systems in hybrid AC/DC microgrids.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
