Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

With the increasing demand for clean energy sources, hydrogen has emerged as a promising alternative to fossil fuels. Biomass is one of the most promising feedstocks for hydrogen production, offering a sustainable and renewable source of energy.

The use of biomass for hydrogen production has gained significant attention in recent years due to its potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide a sustainable source of energy. This Special Issue will focus on the complete cycle of biomass-based hydrogen production, storage, and utilization.

The Special Issue will include original research articles, reviews, and perspectives that address various aspects of biomass-based hydrogen production, storage, and utilization. The articles will cover the following topics, but are not limited to:

  • Biomass resources for hydrogen production including lignocellulosic biomass, algae, energy crops, and municipal solid waste.
  • Thermochemical, photoelectrochemical, and biological processes for hydrogen production from biomass.
  • Integration of biomass-based hydrogen production with other energy systems.
  • Hydrogen storage methods such as compressed hydrogen, liquefied hydrogen, and solid-state hydrogen storage.
  • Hydrogen utilization such as fuel cell vehicles, power generation, and industrial processes
  • Environmental and economic impact of biomass-based hydrogen production, storage, and utilization including greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, economic viability, and life cycle assessment of the entire process.

This Special Issue will serve as a comprehensive resource for researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals interested in the field of biomass-based hydrogen production, storage, and utilization. The articles will provide insights into the latest developments, challenges, and opportunities in this field, and stimulate further research and development in this exciting area.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
