Thermochemical Upgrading of Woody Biomass: Torrefaction, Material Valorization, and Energy Applications

Dear Colleagues,

The torrefaction of biomass is a thermal treatment at approximately 300 °C, producing higher energy yield and density compared to traditional charcoal making. Its relatively low processing temperature reduces environmental impact, positioning torrefaction as a key technology for a sustainable society. Globally, torrefied biofuels are increasingly used for power generation, while improved physical and chemical properties have opened pathways for material applications. With its multifunctional capabilities, torrefaction holds significant potential for diverse uses beyond energy.

This Special Issue aims to showcase the latest advances in torrefaction technologies and applications. We welcome submissions from researchers addressing fuel utilization, material transformation, and related innovations. Your contributions will help highlight the role of torrefaction in achieving sustainability. We look forward to receiving your manuscripts.
