Dear Colleagues,
It is becoming increasingly challenging to maintain the stability and efficiency of power systems with the rapid integration of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar. Integrated renewable energy systems (IRES), which combine multiple generation units, storage devices and sometimes conventional generators, require sophisticated control and optimization strategies to coordinate their intermittent nature and ensure reliable power supply. Traditional methods are often insufficient under high renewable penetration, driving the need for artificial intelligence, machine learning and advanced optimization techniques. Recent advances in smart grids, energy management systems and real-time monitoring have opened new possibilities for handling the complexity and uncertainty of IRES.
This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the most recent advances related to the control, optimization and smart operation of integrated renewable energy systems, with particular focus on artificial intelligence and smart energy applications.
Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Optimal sizing and siting of renewable energy units and storage
- Real-time dispatching and economic load allocation under high variability
- AI-based forecasting of renewable generation and load demand
- Frequency and voltage control in renewable-dominated grids

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
