Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue, "Sustainable Development: From Energy Efficiency and Energy Economic Perspectives", aims to explore the critical role of energy efficiency and economic mechanisms in advancing sustainable development. As the global energy landscape undergoes a transformation driven by climate change, policy shifts, technological innovation, and socio-economic pressures, understanding the nexus between energy use, efficiency, and economic performance is more important than ever. This issue seeks to gather interdisciplinary research that provides both theoretical insights and practical approaches to promote sustainable energy systems.
Aims
The primary aims of this Special Issue are to:
- Highlight recent advances in energy efficiency technologies, practices, and policies that contribute to sustainable development goals (SDGs).
- Examine the economic implications of transitioning to low-carbon and energy-efficient economies.
- Foster cross-disciplinary dialogue between energy engineering, economics, and sustainability science.
- Provide a platform for innovative modeling, case studies, and empirical analyses that inform decision-making for sustainable energy development.
- Support policymakers, researchers, and practitioners with evidence-based strategies to balance environmental goals with economic viability.
Scope of the Issue
This Special Issue welcomes original research articles, reviews, case studies, and policy analyses related to, but not limited to, the following topics:
- Energy efficiency in the industrial, building, and transport sectors;
- Economic analysis of energy transitions and sustainability policies;
- Renewable energy integration and its economic impact;
- Techno-economic assessments of energy systems;
- Energy demand modeling and forecasting for sustainable planning;
- Circular economy and energy resource optimization;
- Environmental and economic trade-offs in energy systems;
- Carbon pricing, subsidies, and financial instruments for energy sustainability;
- Energy poverty, equity, and inclusive economic growth;
- Life-cycle assessments and cost–benefit analyses of energy projects.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
