Dear Colleagues,
The transition toward renewable-dominated and interconnected power infrastructures is transforming the operation of modern energy systems. Increasing penetration of distributed energy resources (DERs), electric vehicles, energy storage systems, and demand-side management technologies is shifting the traditional practice from centralized generation towards distributed, data-driven, and cyber–physical energy networks. While this transformation enhances flexibility and sustainability, it also introduces new challenges related to coordination, scalability, uncertainty management, control, and system resilience.
Advanced distributed optimization and resilient control methodologies are emerging as key enablers of reliable and efficient smart energy systems. Distributed and decentralized control architectures allow scalable management of geographically dispersed resources without relying on vulnerable centralized controllers. At the same time, resilient control approaches are required to ensure stable operation under disturbances, cyber threats, communication delays, model uncertainties, and extreme events.
This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive platform for recent advances in distributed optimization and resilient control strategies for smart energy systems, fully aligned with the scope of Energies. Contributions may address theoretical developments, algorithm design, modeling techniques, simulation frameworks, and real-world validation studies across microgrids, smart grids, hybrid AC/DC systems, energy communities, electric vehicle integration, and renewable-dominated power networks.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Distributed and decentralized optimization algorithms for energy management.
- Model Predictive Control (MPC) and hierarchical control of distributed energy resources.
- Multi-agent and consensus-based coordination strategies.
- Robust and fault-tolerant control of cyber-physical energy systems.
- AI- and data-driven approaches for adaptive energy system control.
- Stability and resilience enhancement under uncertainty and disturbances.
- Distributed scheduling and energy trading mechanisms.
- Optimization-based integration of EVs, storage systems, and renewable sources.
By bringing together researchers working at the intersection of control engineering, optimization, power systems, and intelligent energy management, this Special Issue seeks to advance scalable, reliable, and resilient solutions that support the global transition toward sustainable and secure energy infrastructures.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
