Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Industrial decarbonization is recognized as one of the most important challenges in the global energy transition. While significant progress has been achieved in the decarbonization of electricity generation, industrial sectors still account for a substantial share of global energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, largely due to their dependence on thermal energy processes. Consequently, the development and deployment of advanced thermal energy systems are essential to improve energy efficiency, reduce fossil fuel consumption, and support the transition toward low-carbon industrial production.

Recent technological advances have enabled new opportunities for the integration of innovative thermal solutions, including waste heat recovery technologies, high-temperature heat pumps, thermal energy storage systems, district heating and cooling networks, geothermal applications, and hybrid renewable thermal systems. At the same time, increasing electrification of industrial heat demand and the integration of multiple energy vectors are creating new possibilities for optimizing industrial energy use while reducing environmental impacts.

This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for researchers, engineers, and industry experts to present the latest developments in advanced thermal energy systems for industrial decarbonization. Contributions addressing both fundamental research and practical applications are welcome, including experimental investigations, numerical simulations, system modeling, optimization studies, and real-world industrial case studies.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
