Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed various domains, driving innovation and redefining societal norms. This Special Issue, "Emerging Trends in Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems: From Cybersecurity to Smart Societies", aims to explore the cutting-edge developments and applications of AI, with a focus on bridging the gap between theoretical advancements and real-world implementations.
The primary focus of this Special Issue is to highlight emerging trends in AI and its integration into intelligent systems. Key themes include AI applications in cybersecurity, smart cities, healthcare, decision support systems, and critical infrastructure protection. This Special Issue seeks to address the interplay between AI technologies, edge and cloud computing, and their role in shaping intelligent environments and resilient systems.
This Special Issue encourages interdisciplinary contributions from academia, industry, and government agencies, aiming to address a broad spectrum of topics related to the transformative potential of AI. Submissions are invited on AI-driven solutions for enhancing cybersecurity and protecting critical infrastructure, the development and deployment of AI-enhanced digital twins for optimizing complex systems, and the implementation of AI technologies in e-government, healthcare, and food security. Additionally, this Special Issue seeks to explore the critical role of AI in crisis management and disaster response, as well as innovative applications of multimodal AI and affective computing in the context of smart environments and intelligent systems.
This Special Issue aims to serve as a platform for researchers and practitioners to share insights, methodologies, and innovative solutions. It seeks to advance the state of knowledge on how AI can enhance intelligent systems, contribute to sustainability, and address pressing societal challenges. By fostering collaboration across disciplines, this Special Issue will promote a deeper understanding of how AI technologies can be leveraged to create safer, smarter, and more resilient societies.
While substantial research exists on individual AI applications, this Special Issue uniquely integrates diverse fields such as cybersecurity, healthcare, and smart cities into a unified framework. By focusing on the intersection of these domains, it aims to address gaps in the literature, particularly concerning the scalability, ethical considerations, and practical deployment of AI systems in real-world scenarios. This Special Issue will provide a valuable supplement to existing studies by emphasizing the holistic impact of AI on interconnected systems and societies.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
